About Haliburton Scout Reserve
Centred around Lake Kennabi, Haliburton Scout Reserve offers 23 campsites which are accessible only by water. We are surrounded by a world of breathtaking scenery. The Reserve provides Scouts with the most enjoyable camping experience possible. Your camp covers a 7 day period and can include a variety of activities from the available land and water programs. YOU decide what you would like to do, and you choose the activities that suit your needs and interests.
Experienced, fully trained camp staff offer comprehensive programs from canoeing, kayaking and swimming, to climbing walls, rappelling, archery and rifle ranges. Miles of marked trails allow you to visit uninhabited wilderness to watch hawks soaring above Pike’s Peak, or to fish Haliburton’s pristine lakes.
About our camp at HSR
We will be part of a combined troop at camp with the 1st Highland Creek and the 2nd Agincourt. The camp is open to 403rd Toronto Scouts, Venturers and Cubs who are going up to Scouts in June/September. Cubs who attend will be invested at camp.
Our campsite will be Birch Point. We will canoe to all our activities. Our activities will include archery, rifle shooting, sailing, kayaking, star gazing, rappelling, and much more. We will most likely do an overnight hike on our own partway through the week.
The permission form and the rifle range form must be signed and returned before we leave for camp.
There is a canteen at the central camp, but we will not be there very often so you will not need much spending money.
Do not bring MP3 players, iPods, handheld games, or any other electronic gizmo.
You will have lots of fun.
Cost
The cost of this event will be $375. If money is a problem, talk to Scouter Keith. To sign up, complete the attached form(s) and return with a $100 deposit (cheque payable to 403rd Toronto Scouts) to Keith Nunn, 435 Shuter Street, Toronto, ON, M5A 1X4.
Transportation
We need parents to drive there and back for this to work.
We will be meeting at St. Peter’s Church on Carlton Street at 9am on Sat., July 2.
The parent(s) doing the pick up on July 9 will need to be at the camp by 9:30am.
Directions
Follow Highway 401 east past Toronto to Highway 35.
- Go north on Highway 35 past Lindsay to Minden.
- Turn right (east) on County Rd 121 to Haliburton.
- In the centre of town, turn right at the traffic light and follow Highway #118 for about 5 miles to Kennaway Road which is on your left and clearly marked by signs.
- Turn on the second dirt road on the right (the Kennaway Road) and follow it to the main camp area.
Be sure to fill up with gasoline at Haliburton, since vehicle gasoline is not for sale at the camp.
